This amazing event for youth philanthropists ages 12-21 and the adults who support them from across the Northeast, was held at Brandeis University, just west of Boston in Waltham, MA. Youth philanthropists were able to share their practices in giving and grantmaking, learn together with sessions built for youth and adults, and have fun! 200 attendess from 20 different organizations attended this event.

Akiera is a 4th year Human Services senior at Northeastern University with a concentration in Public Health and a minor in Global Social Entrepreneurship. She took a Strategic Philanthropy course in the Fall of 2014 and served as the Teaching Assistant for the course in the Fall of 2015. This course encouraged Akiera to pursue her minor in Social Entrepreneurship, and join a Board of Directors. She is now on the board of Shattuck Partners- a nonprofit that provides funding for recreational, therapeutic, and vocational programming for patients at Shattuck Hospital in Jamaica Plain. Currently, Akiera is interning in the Social Impact Lab, researching the ethical implications of international service-learning. Having recently returned from doing research in Nairobi, Kenya, Akiera plans to pursue a career in sustainable, socially-conscious international development work.
